Bertetto
André Bertetto was born in 1937 and began his career as a builder craftsman in Bellegarde in 1974. He retired in 1997 at the age of 60. It is reported that he died in 2010 after a long illness.
It seems that he initially used handwriting for his own name, Bertetto, on the down tube and sometimes the owner's name on the top tube, a style commonly used on artisan bicycles in previous decades. He also used a B surrounded by a laurel wreath at the bottom on the head tube.
Then, from the early 1980s onwards, he used a block letter font and a stylised logo with the letter B in the shape of a handlebar profile, which was sometimes pantographed onto the handlebars.
Similar to many French craftsmen of the time (Roger Roche, Gilles Berthoud, etc.), it was in 1980 that he began using a pantograph to personalise his fork heads with the letter B surrounded by a laurel wreath.
