The origins of Carrera Podium can be found in the Inoxpran race team established in 1979 where Giovanni Battaglin was its lead rider. In 1984, Italian jean manufacturer Carrera came on board as title sponsor with the team riding on Battaglin framed bikes. Successes included Roberto Visentini’s victory in the ’86 Giro and Stephen Roche winning the ’87 Giro and Tour de France.

Former professional rider and Carrera team manager Davide Boifava founded the Carrera Podium workshop in 1989 based in Brescia, Italy and the team switched allegiance from Battaglin to its own frames. From 1990, the race team included Steven Roche, Claudio Chiappucci and Marco Pantani, all of whom had success on works machines. The factory also produced a range of Columbus tubed frames for club and amateur riders.

The team disbanded in 1996, although the Carrera Podium workshop continues to this day producing high end carbon bikes.

They are not marketed in Great Britain as UK rights to the Carrera name are held by Halfords whose own machines have no connection with the specialist Italian brand.
