Pennine

Pennine started business in 1946 as Whitaker and Mappleback (cycles) Ltd in Bradford as a retail shop and frame making workshop by friends Johnny Mappleback and Geoff Whitaker with a shared love of Italian bikes after time spent serving in Italy during the war.

In 1952 they started making their own ‘Pennine’ branded frames and began trading under the name of Pennine Cycles with the ‘Italia’ being their top of the range model.

Geoff left the business in the 1970s but Johnny worked until he retired in his 80s.

Paul Corcoran the then manager of the business took over and Pennine Cycles still thrives today making custom built frames at the same premises in Bradford by a master builder with 40 years experience.
