H E Green
‘Doc’ Green got his nickname from his role as first aider for the 29th Wheelers.
After serving in the RNVR as Telegrapher during WW2 Doc started his career as filer at Claud Butler and later A S Gillott. He set up on his own, first working from the back of Algurn Cycles, Garratt Lane, Wandsworth, finally opening his own shop at 171 Dawes Road Fulham in 1952. He forged a partnership with Harry E Humphries who ran a shop in Morden, Surrey, both branches operating as H E Cycles.
His first frames were made in 1953 after a serious eye operation threatened to end his frame building career. The last frames recorded were built in 1965 when Doc left the business, but both shops remained open with bespoke frames being made by ex CB builder Bill Gray and Bill Hurlow.
Doc Green passed away in 2005
