Ellis Briggs

Ellis Briggs Cycles was founded in 1936 by Leonard Ellis and his brother-in-law Thomas Briggs in Shipley, Yorkshire. They built lightweight racing cycles and prospered in the cycling boom through to the late 1950s when Thomas’ son Jack took over the business.

They survived the down turn in the 1960’s and 70’s when 100s of bike businesses failed and when Jack retired in 1986 his sons John and Paul took over. Ellis Briggs still manufactures frames today making them the oldest custom frame builders still operating in the UK
