Alex Singer
Alex Singer was born in1905 in Budapest. He arrived in Paris in 1928 with fellow racing cyclist Jean Csuka. Alex raced without much success and realised he preferred cycle touring. Not finding a bike that suited his needs, he embarked on building one.
He joined Bianco cycles and learnt the art of frame building. In 1938 he and Csuka set up their own business as a ‘specialist frame builder’ at 53 Rue Victor Hugo, Levallois-Perret, Paris
In 1945 he acquired the adjoining building, expanded the business and employed nephews Roland and Ernest Csuka.
In 1964 Alex sold the business to Ernest and died soon after in 1966. By then Ernest had become the senior frame builder and successfully guided the business until his death in 2009.
Alex Singer Cycles operates today, still at 53 Rue Hugo Victor headed by Ernest Csuka’s son Olivier and is renowned for hand building steel touring cycles of the highest quality.
