Vitus

From 1930s, Vitus, a frame tubing manufacturer in St Etienne, France supplied a host of bicycle makers including Motobecane, Bertin, Mercier, Urago, Peugeot, and Gitane.

It first diversified as a frame builder in 1970s when Vitus Bikes was launched and played a pivotal role in pioneering the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, the most iconic being the 979, groundbreaking at the time and still prized today.

In 1982 Vitus engineered and developed the 979 Carbone, one of the very first frames to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and apply it to bikes.
